Home Recording Studios: The Importance of Professional Equipment

Setting Up A Home Recording Studio

Setting up your own home recording studio is one of the biggest advantages that you can provide for yourself as a musician. A home recording studio will enable you to record your own music and re-mix it, if necessary. A few of the wonderful benefits to setting up a home recording studio are that it is always available and far more cost effective than renting a studio.

Years ago, music was recorded on cassette tapes and vinyl. The most popular choice for many bands to record on has traditionally been a cassette tape and so we have the term "mix tape" as part of our contemporary musical vernacular. In today's digital age, modern music that is produced in a home recording studio has been made possible by technological advances such as the CD tower and MP3 recording capabilities.

CD Burners

Most musicians who are recording music in a home recording studio, intend to use the recording for CD production. In order to achieve this goal, a CD tower that has the capability to burn CDs is a critical component of any home recording studio.

Although many computers have built in CD burners, they are usually limited to making one copy at a time. The benefit to using your home computer is that there are no start up costs, other than some blank CDs. This option will work for a new start up, but when you start getting orders for hundreds of CD's, you will not have time to record them all one at a time.

A professional CD tower will enable you to begin burning more than one CD at a time. Depending on the quality of the CD tower, you may be able to record multiple CDs at a rapid pace, if the drive speed is fast. If you can afford a CD burner with 8 bays, this will enhance your duplicating speed tremendously. An automatic duplication feature is also important to look for when you are buying a CD burner.

Studio Headphones

Another piece of equipment that is central to setting up a home recording studio are studio headphones. When you are shopping for headphones, make sure that they are padded well, so that the sound through the headphones does not include any other extraneous sounds. This is especially important if the headphones are being used by a producer who is in the same room as the musicians.

Similarly, the musicians and vocalists should be able to concentrate on the sounds from the headphones, instead of being distracted and preoccupied with other external sounds. You should expect a high-quality set of headphones to provide a clean and flawless sound. They must also have an adequate frequency range that is sufficient enough to evaluate the bass and treble levels. The headphones that you buy should be both durable and lightweight.

These are a few of the key components of setting up your own home recording studio. A home recording studio will allow you the ability to record and burn CDs that are of a professional quality. A home recording studio will also help you to refine your tracks and enable you to digitally re-master them at your leisure.
